On the one hand, the two perspectives of work (potato chips production\u00a0and potato chips nutrition) will be interlinked. On the other hand, the learners must become familiar with the concepts of measuring standards of living, development, and sustainability. The learners are expected to use a suitable framework to evaluate the contribution to sustainable development (or otherwise) from the contemporary chip systems. Conducting some preparatory activities on sustainable development would be helpful to adapt to the chips system context.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can form new groups to mix those who earlier worked on chips production with learners who worked on nutrition for the next group work sessions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 1: What is sustainable and what is not sustainable?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Copies of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Information sheet &#8220;What is sustainable development?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Worksheet \u201cPotato Chips: Sustainable or unsustainable?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Procedure<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Let learners form pairs and read the text &#8220;What is sustainable development?&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Next, share with the learners the worksheet \u201cPotato Chips: Sustainable or unsustainable?\u201d and let them work individually to decide which activities are sustainable and which are unsustainable, and give reasons for their decisions.<\/li>\n<li>Each should also try to list three more activities that can be deemed sustainable or unsustainable.<\/li>\n<li>They should compare results with their partner and discuss their reasoning. Encourage them to think about if they would like to modify or add to their reasoning, and to list if any questions arise as they try to assess whether any action or consequence adds to sustainability.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 2: Matching pictures with SDGs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Materials<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Photos and laminated cards of each SDG<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><b>Procedure<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Print out the icons for all the SDGs (arranging 2 on each page, so they are large enough for the activity) and photos of a range of human activities. Why is this relevant?<\/li>\n<li>How does the way we eat contribute to climate change?<\/li>\n<li>Why is it important to know the ingredients in what we eat?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 3: Analyse <\/strong><strong>Potato Chips production<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>against the SDGs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Print out the Worksheet \u201cSDG Analysis Matrix\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Take a look at the potato chips system and analyse which elements from your systems models (production line and nutrition line) contribute to a specific SDG or are counterproductive to the SDG targets.
